“Our choice of people to associate with, both personally and business-wise, is one of the most important choices you make. If you associate with turkeys, you will never fly with the eagles.”
Brian Tracy
When I was younger I noticed that you regardless of how strong your character or convictions are, over time you will tend to emulate the thoughts and behaviors of those around you. If you hang around whiners, you are likely to eventually start to complain about things. If you hang around people who lie or tell stories about others you will get drawn into that type of behavior. On the other hand, you hang around successful, positive people, you will assume success is natural. If you hang around people that work long hours, you will assume it is natural to do the same, and on and on. If Since realizing the attitudes of those around me can impact my own attitudes, I have consciously avoided any close association with “can’t do” people and chosen to hang around people who believe they can achieve anything they want and have a history of realizing their goals.
If you are starting out on a career in sales or want to take stock of where you are at, I challenge you to ask yourself these questions:
- Are you around people that have big dreams and a plan to get there?
- Do your peers believe anything is possible and that the cup is always at least half full
- Do your friends have the life you want or a life you wouldn’t want?
- Do your colleagues have integrity and treat others with respect?
- Do your friends behave in a way that attracts success?
- Do those you associate with believe in you, encourage you and support you?
- Do you associate with perennial winners or losers?
Wherever you are at, its your choice. Enjoy.
